Apprenticeship Employment

Numerous employers have chosen GI  Apprenticeship (GIA) to employ apprentices on their behalf. At any one time we have hundreds of apprentices on our books, employed by us but hosted by dozens of employers. We call it our Hosting Model, and it’s our most popular service.

Many employers prefer to outsource to us like this because taking on an apprentice involves a lot of extra requirements and responsibilities:

  •           Apprentices require a special Apprenticeship Contract of Employment, setting out the obligations of employer and employee, particularly covering the pay, hours, responsibilities and training involved.

  •           Many apprentices have never had a full time job before. They will need both a line manager and a mentor, which can be a problem for small businesses in particular. At GIA, we have a dedicated Apprentice Support Team, and will also provide individual mentors to help your apprentice right the way through their apprenticeship.

  •           Proper training is a vital part of any apprenticeship, and should be performed by a training provider recognized by the Department of Labor .  In most cases we can provide expert training in-house, and we also work with specialist providers to ensure your apprentice receives the training they require.

 How our Hosting Model works

If you ask us to act as employers for your apprentices, we will ensure that all the necessary criteria are met.  (You can see more details of the sourcing and recruitment process on the Apprentice Recruitment page.) With this Hosting Model, your apprentice is employed by and contracted to us – you simply ‘host’ the employment.

As well as supporting your apprentice, organizing their training and helping them to progress, we will also take on all the administrative tasks associated with employment such as tax, national insurance and so on.  We manage salaries, plus holiday and sick pay. You simply submit weekly time sheets for your apprentice, which then authorities us to pay them. We then bill you weekly, fortnightly or monthly with an invoice for you to pay us by direct debit.

Naturally, we ensure that you can access any available government funding – there are special grants for any employer  taking on apprentices, while large employers will also benefit from further tax credits available. More government funding is available for those employing young people aged 24 or under and women in non traditional fields.
